Create jobs for workers returning home due to COVID-19 pandemic

(LĐXH)- Under the strong influence of “the 4th COVID-19 pandemic wave”, many workers lost their jobs and had to temporarily return to their hometown. Many localities affirmed that they would create job for workers after welcoming them back.

According to a report by the Department of Employment under Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), in the second quarter of 2021, 12.8 million people aged 15 and over were negatively affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, including people who lost their jobs, laid off work, reduced working hours, reduced income…

Notably, the strong and fast outbreak of this COVID-19 pandemic has made the underemployment and unemployment rate higher in urban areas than in rural areas.

21.9% of workers in urban area are adversely affected, while this figure in rural area is 14.3%. This trend is different from that seen in previous years in which underemployment in rural area is often higher than in urban area.,

In Ho Chi Minh City alone, in the first 6 months of 2021, the Center for Human Resource Forecasting conducted a survey of 4,140 enterprises, with a total of 332,301 employees.

The sesult showed that 125,277 workers lost their jobs, temporarily left or laid off jobs.

In addition, according to the support statistics from the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, up to now, the city has nearly 590,000 employees, freelance workers, business households in difficulty because of the Covid-19 pandemic impact.

The majority of workers in the South are from the central, central highlands and the west. After welcoming workers back to their hometown, localities leaders affirmed that they will create job conditions for workers.

The leader of Quang Nam People's Committee said that after workers complete isolation and stabilize their lives, the province will re-evaluate and see the people's aspirations. People of working age can be given suitable occupations.

Nghe An province also proposes to create long-term jobs for returning workers, especially mountainous people.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Thua Thien Hue is coordinating with localities in the area to review the number, occupations and skill levels of returning workers from outside the province, as well as bring these workers to labour market, ensuring social security./.
