Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha welcomed US Congressman to visit disabled children in HCMC
(LĐXH)- On April 10, MoLISA Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha received the US Congressional Delegation, led by Senator Jeff Merkley to visit the HCMC Centre of Rehabilitation and Assistance for Disabled Children (under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs).
Accordingly, Vietnam's Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has enjoyed a good relationship with the US Department of Labour, especially in the past two decades.
The two Ministries have implemented an annual labour dialogue mechanism since 2000 and are cooperating in implementing a number of projects in the labour sector funded by the US Government through the ILO.
Many US NGOs also support humanitarian and development activities in Vietnam to assist people with disabilities.
"This visit to Vietnam shows the importance of the US Congress in general and the Senator in particular in promoting the relationship between the two countries, especially the concern for people with disabilities in Vietnam", she said.
Senator Jeff Merkley thanked Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha for her welcoming and said that the visit is an important activity to promote cooperation between the two Parliaments of the two countries and continue the humanitarian tasks that the Senate Congressman Patrick Leahy built before.
Mr. Jeff Merkley hoped that the two countries would cooperate more closely to overcome the consequences of war, improve the lives of people with disabilities, victims of landmines after the war and victims of Agent Orange.
He also thanked the leaders and staff of the HCMC Centre of Rehabilitation and Assistance for Disabled Children for their sacrifices to do meaningful work for children with disabilities.
According to the Centre's leaders, over 45 years of operation, the Centre has taken care of more than 11,000 children, treated and rehabilitated 900,000 children with disabilities; professional training for more than 4,900 staff and carers. Currently, 250 children with multiple disabilities are being cared for here./.
