Vietnam - RoK signed MOU on sending and receiving workers under the EPS Program
(LĐXH)- On June 23, 2023, in Hanoi, Vietnam's Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung and Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Minister of Employment and Labour Lee Jung Sik signed and handed over a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on sending and receiving Vietnamese workers to work in Korea under the Employment Permit System for foreign workers of RoK (EPS Program).
The signing also stipulates pre-departure preparations, supporting the dispatching and receiving process; measures to prevent and minimize the situation of laborers whose contracts expire but do not voluntarily return home.
The signing specifically emphasized the responsibilities of the relevant agencies of both Vietnam and Korea in implementing the EPS Program.
The MOU is valid for 2 years from the date of signing and remains in effect during the new renewal negotiation period.
After 30 years of labour cooperation, RoK has become one of the key labor markets, attracting many Vietnamese workers to Korea to work.
Vietnam's Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the RoK’s Ministry of Employment and Labour have continuously expanded comprehensive cooperation activities in the sectors of labour, employment and vocational education over the years.
In recent years, the RoK Government has actively adjusted policies to attract more foreign workers such as increasing quotas under the EPS Program, extending working hours for seasonal agricultural workers, expanding receive human resources in the shipbuilding industry with more favorable conditions for workers.
For Vietnamese workers, RoK is a high-income market, close to culture, so it attracts many workers to choose to work.
As of June 1, 2023, there are 48,950 Vietnamese workers working in this country (an increase of 9,300 people compared to the same period in 2022).
Vietnam sent more than 5,423 workers to the RoK in the first half of the year and it aims to dispatch 10,000 migrant workers to the market under the EPS Program this year./.
