Workshop discusses measures to support labour market amid COVID-19

Nhan Dan Newspaper and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) jointly held a workshop on November 17 regarding measures to stabilise the labour market amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event took place as Vietnam is facing high rates of unemployment and job loss while workers’ income also fell sharply due to the impacts of coronavirus.

According to the General Statistics Office, more than 28.2 million Vietnamese people aged 15 and above were affected by the pandemic in the third quarter of 2021.

In the face of complicated developments from the virus, the Party and States have introduced a series of timely measures to cope with the pandemic, promote economic growth and ensure social security.

In his opening remarks, Nhan Dan’s Editor-in-chief Le Quoc Minh said that the workshop is designed for employers, workers, managers and experts to share their opinions on how to implement measures to support and stabilise the labour market post-pandemic.

According to MOLISA Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh, the government has spent over 27.24 trillion VND (nearly 1.2 billion USD) to support over 27.6 million people.

He added that the ministry is drafting a programme, with seven major groups, of measures expected to help the labour market recover from a shortage of workers due to the enormous impacts of COVID-19.

The workshop also received a wide range of opinions for dealing with the shortage from regulators in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Nai, experts at the National Economics University, the Central Economic Commission and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, leaders of Vinatex and Samsung Vietnam CEO./.
