02:52 PM 2024-11-08
(LĐXH)- Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan had a meeting with the delegation of the Consulate General of Canada in Vietnam led by Ms. Genevieve Michaud - First Secretary, Consulate General of Canada to discuss and promote cooperation in sending Vietnamese workers to work in Canada in the coming time, on the afternoon of November 7, 2024.
Ms. Genevieve Michaud said that the Canadian Government is promoting programs to attract foreign workers, especially skilled workers and skilled workers with priority... In addition, unskilled workers are also welcomed, mainly in the manufacturing, agricultural and service sectors.
However, Canada has not paid due attention to the issue of recruiting foreign workers. Cooperation in recruiting workers with Vietnam is not yet really systematic.
“Recently, at the Vietnam Migration Profile 2023 workshop organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), there were many positive responses from countries such as Japan, Germany, Taiwan (China) highly appreciating the role of migrants in promoting social development and economic growth in Vietnam and other receiving countries.” – Ms. Genevieve Michaud said.
Therefore, Ms. Genevieve Michaud hopes to promote labour cooperation between Vietnam and Canada to increase the number of Vietnamese workers working in Canada, prevent illegal immigration, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers.
Responding to Ms. Genevieve Michaud, Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan said that over the past time, the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Canada has continuously developed, especially in the fields of trade and investment.
However, the cooperation in labour between the two countries is still modest, while Canada has a large demand for labour and Vietnam has an abundant labour force, the population is in its golden period.
The Deputy Minister said that there are currently over 800,000 Vietnamese workers working abroad under contracts in 40 countries and territories, with an average of over 100,000 workers sent abroad each year. The MoLISA is licensing and managing over 500 service businesses sending workers to work abroad.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan hopes that the two sides will cooperate to promote sending Vietnamese workers to Canada to work in accordance with the law in the coming time.
He suggested that the Canadian side discuss specifically the need to receive Vietnamese workers to work in Canada as well as the direction for promoting the Agreement/Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of labour, so that the two sides can establish a regular information exchange channel on issues of mutual interest and difficulties.
Acknowledging the opinion of Deputy Minister Nguyen Ba Hoan, Ms. Genevieve Michaud said that this is an opportunity for the two sides to promote labour cooperation and she will report back to relevant Canadian authorities to create momentum for labor cooperation between the two sides in the coming time./.
